Service for former President John LaVia on May 1</span></b><b><span

<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Former
President Jon LaVia (86'-87') passed away suddenly on Attu in 2000. His friends
and family have organized a 10-year anniversary Memorial Service for him. The
date is May 1st, 2010, and the location is the Doane Academy in Burlington, NJ.
An invitation has been extended to his friends in the birding community to
attend the memorial service if they wish.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>John's
wife and some of his children will be in attendance. A Doc LaVia Memorial
Endowment has been established to continue his legacy.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

24 (Sunday) – CUMBERLAND AND CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>This
trip will search for the Sandhill Crane flock that has traditionally roosted at
Husted Landing. This is supposedly a resident flock although no one seems to
know where they breed. It is extremely interesting because a Common Crane and
several hybrid offspring are part of this group of 18 birds. If the flock
hasn't been located then this trip will end at Jake's Landing for the
Short-eared Owl show. This trip will meet at noon. We will choose our itinerary
and meeting place after the CBC’s. This will give us a chance to chase
whatever else is around before completing the day with the dusk activity of the
cranes and or owls. This trip will likely produce large numbers of Snow Geese,
maybe even a Ross’s or Greater White-fronted Goose, harriers and Bald
Eagles. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

30 (Saturday) – CONOWINGO DAM, MD AND PERRYVILLE, PA <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

on the Susquehanna River where there is a nice concentration of Bald Eagles
around Conowingo Dam. After birding the dam we will head north to Perryville
and look for wintering waterfowl. Meet at 9AM at Fisherman’s Park at
Conowingo Dam.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

>From Route 1. Immediately after crossing the dam, turn left on Fisherman Park

31 (Sunday) – WINTER WATERFOWL AT ROOSEVELT PARK, PA<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The
lakes in this urban, south-Philly park hosts hundreds of ducks during the
winter months, including Scaup, Ring-Neck, Bufflehead, Wigeon, Shoveler,
Green-Winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, Redheads and there is always the possibility of
Canvasback. Meet at the parking lot on the south side of the main lake at
9:00AM. Dress warmly; bring scope and binoculars for fairly rewarding, close-up
views. We may go to John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum afterwards.
