font-weight:normal'>In 1838, as John James Audubon’s monumental creation,
Birds of America, was nearing completion, he requested that his engraver,
Robert Havell, produce 13 extra, unique prints. Havell was instructed to
combine images from two separate plates into a single print, commonly known as
a “Composite Plate”.<o:p></o:p></span></strong></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";
font-weight:normal'>Only two full sets, along with a handful of individual
prints, of these rare prints exist today and are rarely if ever seen by the
public. <o:p></o:p></span></strong></p>

font-weight:normal'>In this presentation club members Jeff and Bert will
provide an analysis as to how and why these plates were made, while providing

color:black'>If you’re a beginning birder or a lifelong lover of birds of
prey, this hands-on workshop will give you a better understanding of raptor
anatomy, identification, and migration. Not only will we examine prepared
wings, feet, and skulls but we will peer inside a raptor specimen’s
mouth, feel the neck vertebrae, find the ears, and more! Participants will also
compare their finds to some of the live raptors in our collection. Educators
will share tips on identification, where to see raptors migrating, recent
research on threats to migrating birds and how we can help, and answer your
questions in a small group format. This workshop is led by the Academy’s
Live Animal Center Manager Laura McRae, a certified wildlife rehabilitator, and
Michele Bassler, the Academy’s supervisor for outreach programs and

Field Trip Committee Chairman, I am responsible for scheduling the field trips
for our club. Last year we had a very successful year, offering 48 field
trips; that’s almost one every week! Many were local trips in the
Delaware Valley area, but a few went far afield, to Canada and the

year I am looking to add some new locations as well as some new field trip
leaders to our offerings. I looking for members who would be willing to
lead a trip in 2010. You don’t need to be a birding expert to lead
