The Delaware Valley Ornithological Club (DVOC) Weekly Update

Annual DVOC Banquet - Wednesday December 5 (note the day of the week and the
date!)
All reservations must be in by Sunday December 2. - ONE WEEK FROM TODAY
Sign up now!
Please join us for the DVOC banquet. Note the day and date which is a
departure from our usual Thursday evening in November. Our speaker, Dr. Don
Kroodsma, is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of
Massachusetts. He is THE man in the science of bird song today which he has
studied for thirty years. Dr. Kroodsma has written a book about the art and
science of birdsong in which he demonstrates its diversity through 30
carefully chosen examples. His focus and approach to his study is unique
inasmuch as he tours the US on his bicycle, collecting bird songs along the
way. Dr. Kroodsma maintains that there is no better way to hear a continent
sing than by bicycle.
Everyone is welcome. Members, non-members, spouses, friends, etc.

Land Use Seminar - submitted by Debbie Beer
The Rohm & Haas company will host a public Land Use and Conservation Plan
Meeting, coordinated by Natural Lands Trust (NLT), a regional land
conservation organization, on Wednesday, November 28th, 5:30 - 7:00 pm. NLT
is developing a conservation plan for the natural areas portion of Rohm &
Haas' undeveloped land (possibly tidal marsh restoration and a trail along
the river). The purpose of the meeting is to solicit feedback from the
public before NLT develops a proposal. The meeting takes place at the Rohm
& Haas Engineering Building at 3100 State Road, Croydon, PA 19021. The
public is freely invited. Refreshments will be available. If you have
questions, please contact Danielle Beerhalter, Rohm & Haas Public Affairs
Manager at 215-785-8828.
