The Delaware Valley Ornithological Club (DVOC) Weekly Update

Annual DVOC Banquet - Wednesday December 5 (note the day of the week and the
date!)
Sign up now!
Please join us for the upcoming DVOC banquet. Note the day and date which is
a departure from our usual Thursday evening in November. Our speaker, Dr.
Don Kroodsma, is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of
Massachusetts. He is THE man in the science of bird song today which he has
studied for thirty years. Dr. Kroodsma has written a book about the art and
science of birdsong in which he demonstrates its diversity through 30
carefully chosen examples. His focus and approach to his study is unique
inasmuch as he tours the US on his bicycle, collecting bird songs along the
way. Dr. Kroodsma maintains that there is no better way to hear a continent
sing than by bicycle.
Everyone is welcome. Members, non-members, spouses, friends, etc.

the presence of each influences the social development of the other. Bob
will discuss his findings from intensive field study of four different
populations.
Ornithological Study - Edie Parnum - "Hummingbird Hotspot in Central
Pennsylvania"

Interesting Picture
http://www.dvoc.org/Misc/2007/HeronPenguins.htm - One of the keepers at the
Philadelphia Zoo took a picture of a great blue heron invading the Humboldt
penguin exhibit. It was rather entertaining watching him carrying nest
materials in the midst of some very confused penguins. Submitted by Wendy
Lenhart
