The Delaware Valley Ornithological Club (DVOC) Weekly Update
Annual DVOC Banquet - Wednesday December 5 (note the day of the week and the
date!)
Sign up now!
Please join us for the upcoming DVOC banquet. Note the day and date which is
a departure from our usual Thursday evening in November. Our speaker, Dr.
Don Kroodsma, is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of
Massachusetts. He is THE man in the science of bird song today which he has
studied for thirty years. Dr. Kroodsma has written a book about the art and
science of birdsong in which he demonstrates its diversity through 30
carefully chosen examples. His focus and approach to his study is unique
inasmuch as he tours the US on his bicycle, collecting bird songs along the
way. Dr. Kroodsma maintains that there is no better way to hear a continent
sing than by bicycle.
Everyone is welcome. Members, non-members, spouses, friends, etc.

Looking for Ornithological Studies Topics and Speakers
We are looking for suggestions for topics and speakers (especially
yourself!) for our "Orni Study" presentations. These short talks (10-15
minutes) can be on any topic related to birds, such as bird identification,
behavior, an interesting observation or occurrence, a special site,
photography, birding techniques, history, a conservation or research
project, etc. etc. We always welcome variety in topics, speakers and
formats. All members are encouraged to give a presentation: we are all
constantly learning from each other. Please send suggestions to Art
McMorris: McMorris AT mac DOT com.
