DVOC Interns at the Academy of Natural Sciences - by Chris Walters - DVOC
President
I want to report to all that DVOC Council recently decided to use our
World Series of Birding contributions to support not one, but two, summer
interns this year at the Bird Department of the Academy of Natural Sciences.
It is costing DVOC $1000 for each intern. It is great that we were able to
raise enough WSB funds to do that---let me thank everyone who pledged and
contributed to this effort (in fact we raised enough to support an intern
each of the following two summers as well). If you had met the interns, as I
did recently, you would agree that our money is going for a great purpose.
Our interns are both present and accounted for, working diligently away
under Nate Rice's close eye in the Academy Bird Department. When Nate
introduced them to me yesterday, they were busy working with volunteer (and
Club member) Dana Cohen preparing a Ruddy Duck specimen (what a bloody
mess!). They both expressed delight at their internships and many thanks to
the Club for helping make these possible.
