DVOC Field Trip Report
by Phil Witmer
May 23 - 25, 2010
Graystone Preserve, Pocono Mountians, Pennsylvania
The field trip to Graystone Preserve was a complete success.
Wine, cheese and dinner was enjoyed by all followed with Kevin Loughlin’s
presentation on bird binoculars and birding for beginners. Monday was spent
touring top birding spots in the Poconos. Highlights included Cerulean Warbler,
Bald Eagles, Great Crested Flycatcher and Northern Oriole. Dinner and Key Lime
Pie was followed by Phil Witmer’s talk on the impact of global warming
on birds. Tuesday morning was spent birding the preserve. Our primary stop was
a meadow on top of the ridge. Highlights included Prairie Warbler, Eastern Towhee,
Kestrel and Black-throated Blue Warbler. We had great looks at Northern Orioles
flying in and out of a brush pile. In 1 ½ days of birding over 75 species
were seen or heard.
